Tacora Resources Inc. (Tacora) is an innovative iron ore mining and development company, with a processing facility located at the Scully Mine in Wabush, NL, Canada, servicing high demand from customers throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

The details of the compensation plan include the following: competitive base pay, monthly SQT bonus, comprehensive employer-paid group benefits plan, employer-paid RRSP plan, travel benefit, WorkPerks for Tacora employee discount plan, and other short-term incentive plans.

Tacora Programs
Tacora supports the development and growth of our employees in various apprentice trades through subsidized paid leave while attending block training. We are committed to working with the stakeholders to identify skilled trade shortages, implement training and apprenticeship programs in these areas and supporting the growth of women in mining trades.
Tacora offers a dynamic, engaging, and challenging opportunity for students to expand their knowledge and skillsets working along dedicated employees from a variety of backgrounds.
Co-op students enrolled in 2nd to 4th year mining engineering, business, or geology degree programs that are hired by Tacora, will be responsible for a variety of tasks, some of which will include: following safe work practices, data analysis, administrative support tasks, and supporting employees in project planning, monitoring key performance indicators, surveying, and reporting. We apply a long-term approach to hiring co-op students, which fulfills current gaps, succession planning and future needs.
Tacora welcomes summer students to our team with the goal to provide students with valuable summer work experience. The summer student program also ensures productivity and production are not impacted by full-time employees off an annual leave. Summer students are hired and trained to perform the same duties as unionized workers. Our students work across all areas of operations and gain valuable experience related to mining, while aligning with their related field of study.
Every year, we hire in various areas for summer students, including:
- Mine Operations (Haul Truck Operators, Pit attendants, clean up)
- Mine Maintenance (Laborers & Welding & Mechanical Helpers)
- Concentrator Operation & Service and Cleanup Crew

In 2021, Tacora launched the Tacora Resources Adam Salomon de Friedberg Apprentice Scholarship Program that provides scholarships for new students entering 1st year into an apprentice trades program related to the mining industry. Tacora also offers a “Women in Mining” Trades Scholarship Award to encourage and support the growth of a diversified skilled mining workforce within the Labrador West region. These scholarships are available during each academic year.

Living in Labrador
Wabush is located on the western border of Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador and the areas population is made up of fourth and fifth generation mining families. Known for its long winters, and its brief but beautiful summers, Labrador is also a paradise for lovers of the outdoors; the summer offers trails for walking, hiking, mountain biking, or operating ATVs and the city itself has a golf course, a skate park, dog parks, as well as fields for soccer and football. In the winter, you can take advantage of many snowmobile trails, trails for cross country skiing, and locations that are perfect for downhill skiing. Year round there are indoor facilities and studios for a variety of sports and recreational activities, there are countless locations to camp, and hunting and fishing can happen each and every season (as long as you are granted a licence).
CHILDCARE
Labrador City has two licensed and affordable daycare centres that operate year-round.
EDUCATION
Labrador City and Wabush are within the Newfoundland Labrador English School District. There are two schools located in Labrador City, and one in Wabush; the curriculum is mainly taught in English, but French Immersion programs are also available from pre-schooling to twelfth grade.
HEALTH SERVICES
The Labrador West Health Centre is home to a general surgeon, an obstetrician/gynecologist , and an anesthesiologist while many specialists visit the hospital on a regular basis to ensure that all clients’ needs are met. For more information, click here.

The College of the North Atlantic – Labrador West Campus is ready to accept those interested in learning specialized skills for a myriad of disciplines and trades.

TRAVEL
The Wabush Airport is serviced by Air Inuit, PAL Airlines, and Pascan Aviation. Labrador City, Wabush, and even Fermont, Quebec, use this airport as their gate to the rest of the world.
